when you wire a sub in siries does it do nething to the subs, like make its life shorter, or not being able to take its original power rating?

it's life will only be shortened if the amplifier makes significantly more power at that particular impedance than the sub can handle.

wiring in series sums impedance.
For example, if you have a dual coil 4 ohm sub and you wire the coils in series the result is 8 ohms.

Same result if you have two single coil 4 ohm subs. Not many amps make a lot of power at 8 ohms.

if you wire each sub's coils in series on it's own channel, yes, you'll have a 4 ohm load.

With a mono amp you could wire the coils in series and the subs parallel for a 2 ohm load at the amp.
