you need a high current 13.8VDC regulated power supply. the battery isn't a great idea since the battery can gas under those conditions.

get a battery charger and hook it up to the amp. and run the remote wire to the 12volt supply |

a battery charger is a trickle charging device, at low current. won't work.

The "car battery and charger" trick used in a lot of car audio shops is a really bad way of making a power supply. Finding or building a regulated supply with enough current will cost more than just buying a decent home amp. OR.......you can get crazy and do this.... 1)Take 8 car amps and connect them in series (power input, not sound output) 2)Purchase or make a bridge rectifier large enough to handle about 2000 watts and connect amp array to the + and -(adding a 1 farad cap after rectification is a good idea too) 3)Use a small 12v transformer to power the remote turn ons on all 8 amps 4)Get 2 15" quad-coil subs 5)Make your neighbors cry!!!!!! I know this sounds completely far fetched but i have done it. You end up with ruffly 15v dc to each amp with as much current as your 120 line and rectifier can handle!!!! |

the problem there is that home circuits usually handle at least 3 rooms of a house, or two apartments in a complex, and they are 20A circuits. Unless you have a dedicated circuit set up for a high current load, and preferably conditioned, you'll encounter problems. That was the case for a single Krell KSA-250 amplifier with a 4 Ohm stereo load at home.. had to set up a dedicated feed for the amplifier and related components.
