I hav a creative zen micro MP3 player. How much of a difference is there in a front panel aux input than a rear aux??

Nothing much really. Though it seems like the cheaper units use front panel inputs-plus front panels are headphone jacks and the rears are usually RCA jacks.

I prefer rear aux inputs myself.

so for a headunit with a rear stereo RCA auxiliary input on a 4" pigtail", what do i need to do to hook up my MP3 player to it?(M-Bus to RCA??)

You can just buy a cable that converts the headphone jack from your mp3 player to RCA.
