i tested it out on my home theatre system and it worked. just wondering if anyone has tried it or what the experts think. one source seemed to sound very faint though. i planned to use two Y-adapters to hook up two audio signas into one set of aux rca inputs. can it hurt my headunit though?

It will work as long as both aren't sending a signal simultaneously. It shouldn't damage your headunit at all.

for some reason i tried it in the car, and it wouldnt work. as soon as i plug in the second input, the signal gets very low, and can barely be heard.

as for Glass's suggestion, thanks, but that is the opposit im trying to do im trying to have two outputs go into one input. kinda like running two computers on the same monitor. i need some sort of switch to change from 1 input to the other.

oh for inputs. I was in a hurry and misread that.
Y splitters may work but most likely you'll get feedback and a weak signal.
you'll most likely need a selector of some sort or a switching relay to go between devices so each device is isolated from the others during use.
