component speakers have the woofer and the tweeter separate. so you can mount the tweeter where you want it in your car. And regular speakers, also known as coaxials, have the tweeter mounted on top of the woofer. |

thanx alot..i had seen this as a difference..but..the prices for the same coaxial speakers in the component version seem to be a substantial amount more..is there much difference in sq? |

yes, b/c you can bring the tweeters up to ear level. by mounting them up higher than where they would be, which is in the doors if you had coaxials. also in my opinion the woofers can hit harder and louder, b/c there is not a tweeter it has to play around.the tweeter is mounted in a hole in the dustcap of the woofer, decreasing the surface area of the woofer but i could be wrong about the woofer not being able to play louder, and hit harder. |
