I'm getting impatient with this one... They've already gotten this updated Nav unit, in Europe: http://www.caraudiodiscount.com/acatalog/Alpine_Navigation.html I like this Green/Red Illumination on their D310R, though. Would look real good against the dash of my WRX. Of course they'll never ship em here to the US. |

I called Alpine directly and they told me "the first part of October, 2005." They wouldn't elaborate any further. |

Crutchfield has the NVE-N872A in their systems for ordering now. It isn't in the public area on their website yet, but the item number is 500NVEN872. One of the helpful online chat people from Crutchfield (thanks, Stephen! )loaded up my online shopping cart with the unit and I placed my order. ETA at Crutchfield is 11/14/2005, price is $1699.99. Stephen is a great guy at Crutchfield, use him as your sales advisor if you don't already have someone in mind. Shawn |

Don't bother to wait for it. Alpine always says things are going to be available on a certain date and then leads you on month by month. They have had serious problems with the NVE N872A and it is being discontinued this year. Might be available at end of next year. |

Anonymous, you are so full of it. The N852A has been discontinued, not the N872A. You need to get out more.

I think "anonymous" is right. I did a google search of the internet and, (a) found nothing saying the N852A has been discontinued and in-fact found it listed for sale in numerious places, and (b) no press release or anything directly from Alpine sayin when any "N872A" is going to be released. Just rumors from others. If I could find any indication it is "being shipped now" or whatever I would feel different. I have had the N872A on order now for over 3 months. Monday I am going to cancel my order and go with the Pioneer NAV-SYS620T whih IS available. I am tired of Alpine being so quiet and leading us on month by month with no direct announcements what-so-ever. TOM |

Come on! First it was in September, then it was at the end of September. Now, it says November (not mid-November). Want to bet then it will be December? And then it will take 2-3 months for them to fill their orders so at best it will be next year before delivery. I won't fall for it anymore. I am canceling my order and going with something else from someone who delivers. Sorry, just tired of waiting. But thanks anyway. TOM |

I know we're all getting impatient on this one... I started this thread back in May and we've gotten nowhere near a solid answer, aside from Peter7277 and his enewsletter. It's in the Spring 2005 Alpine catalog and I've been asking every dealer, installer and rep I can find in LA. I can't believe how little info is being let out about this thing. I'm not gonna get all personally offended and emotional over it and do anything crazy like run out and buy a Pioneer though. As much as it sucks waiting for a product to launch, you have to consider that this will be a next gen device. This nav unit will be much more advanced than anything else out there. The feature set is well worth it's expected $1500-1700 price tag too. The fact that it is upgradeable via memorycard, alone is a reassuring comfort. But, 3D building mapping, road width, nav traffic, zagat guide, voice recognition, nav will finally be touch screen compatible, 9 million POI's!!! I have to wait for this. It's going to be awesome. But, I will get pissed if Alpine drops an IVA-d320 that will support video playback from the rumored Video Ipod that apple is supposed to be releasing today. I can picture the day I install the d310 and the day after I'll need to upgrade to a d320, buy a new "AVpod" and with Alpine's reputation also probably have to by a new KCA-520i AVpod interface. If a video ipod is released, one of it's only practical purposes would be in-car entertainment though, if you think about it. Anyway, the wait continues... If anyone is sitting on information that they don't think is important or that we may already have... post it anyway. let's fill this page with as many NVE-N872A links as possible. A central local for everything NVE-N872A related. By the way Alpine, your nav unit looks pretty impressive but unless you start shipping it soon, Sony is gonna get the drop on you by announcing this magnificent nav unit and we're all gonna be using minidisc or somethin again. http://www.dottocomu.com/b/archives/001252.html

I signed up to be on Alpine's news list a while back, and I too received the e-mail that Peter7277 posted stating that the N872A would be available in November. Coupled with Crutchfields ETA of 11/14 that they didn't have only a couple of days earlier I feel quite confident that there won't be any further delays in getting these units out to distributors. You guys are right. The first rep I spoke to at Crutchfield did not have a clue. However, another rep (Marshall) did some research, and confirmed the November 14th ETA He even said that it might come in a bit sooner since their ETAs tend to be on the "conservative" side. This was a week back. They now have it on their website at www.crutchfield.com |

Did you buy the traffic receiver? I heard you can use either XM or SIRIUS receiver to get traffic data on this unit. |

Alex, No I didn't buy the traffic receiver yet. Thats next. I have both SIRUS and XM in my S2000. I think the XM is operational. I'm also looking at the new Alpine HD radio to replace my Sony Xplod system. I was able to install the NVE-N872A main unit in the trunk last night. Next is to run and connect all the cables if I can find any room. Keep you posted. Regards, Frank |

UH OH!!! I know that I said before in this thread, that I wouldn't get all crazy and buy a Pioneer. But I just got word of an updated Pioneer AVIC-N2. 30 gig hard drive (map disc no longer needed), Bluetooth, ipod controls,... I really don't want to like it, but it'll be tough to decide whether Alpine is worth choosing over this monster. Well just read this... Pioneer Electronics yesterday said they were planning to show off a new state of the art in-car navigation system at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January. Called the AVIC-Z1, this system will be available in early spring 2006. The AVIC-Z1 is what Pioneer is calling the most advanced in-car navigation system ever. Its on board, 30GB hard drive is capable of holding a large amount of information and stores the entire TeleAtlas database, including around 11 million points of interest. Other navigation and safety features of the AVIC-Z1 will include an ability to learn frequently traveled roads so it can calculate suggested routes, a routing algorithm which takes into account actual road data such as posted speed limits when suggesting routes, optional real time traffic information through XM, brand icons on screen for companies like Chilis and Albertsons, voice recognition to tell the device to perform navigation, audio video and attachment functions, integration with Bluetooth so that when paired with compatible cell phones audio is muted when calls are made or received and a 7 color touch screen. As for entertainment, the AVIC-Z1 can playback digital music files stores on its hard drive, displaying information on the music collected from the online Gracenote CDDB Music Recognition Service. Other features in this vein include DVD video playback when fed to a separate monitor, CD-MP3 playback capability, AM/FM/XM (optional)/Sirius (optional) and complete control of an attached iPod when an optional adapter is used. "The AVIC-Z1 builds on Pioneer's success and more than 10 years of experience in navigation from Japan," said Michael Townsen, director of marketing for mobile entertainment at Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc, in a statement. "It is clearly the most advanced navigation system we've ever developed for the U.S. market to make the driving experience easier, safer and less stressful." NOW, I LOVE MYSELF SOME ALPINE...But this sounds sick... too bad it'll have the Pioneer UI. Alpine dropped support for Nokia phones a while back and it was one thing that I really think could have been great on the d310. But I think Pioneer really got smart by putting the Bluetooth into this thing. Great idea. Also, the "smart" learning technology sounds cool as hell. It seems like it will analyze your driving style and route you accordingly. I can't say I'm sold yet but for $2200 or whatever, it may be a no brainer. The d310 is $1400, nav is $1600, ipod interface $100, Sat radio adapter $100, TV Tuner $200... and in the end it all seems to add up to less features. WOW, what to do... That bluetooth and 30gig HD may sway me. What do you guys think? |

One problem with the Pioneer units is that you can no longer override the "You're in motion" warning, because it uses the gyroscope as well as the parking brake - you MUST either set the destination before you begin your trip, or pull over. I find that really annoying. (Actually, I just found that there's apparently a hack involving grounding an additional set of wires. Who knows if that will continue working or not...) |

Brian, From what I saw of the N872a, the bluetooth option is there, it just isn't working, so I suspect that there will be an update that will support it at a later date. |

Brian, Went to check out the n872a again today at my audio dealer's shop. From what I saw and what he told me, bluetooth is not supported but the software has some phone dialing options that are not enabled. Since the option is there, I would think that a later software update disc or flash card would support it. The nav unit was very impressive. Can't wait to get my xmas bonus so I can get one for the car. |

Ty - that's good news. Still, Pioneer's changes to the N2 make me nervous; it implies that they consider themselves potentially liable unless they make every effort to thwart bypassing. I've watched this happen with TiVo; at first it was "don't ask, don't tell", and then hacking got progressively harder until it became practically impossible. I'm glad to hear that people have figured out ways around the new interlock, but I wouldn't make a $5,000 purchase betting on the fact that it'll remain possible. |

Hello, Finished installing my Alpine NVE-N872A gps unit in my Honda S2000. It was very easy to install and worked the first time I turned it on. I tried it out on a trip from San Diego to Julian east of San Diego then on to Palm Springs driving by way of the Salton Sea. Then up thru the mountains to Temecula to the Pala Casino for diner. The navigation worked without a problem. Hope to see a bunch of upgrades to the unit. The data base is not current and sometimes its hard to understand the manual. The altitude display would be better as a readout in feet instead of a vertical scale. Alpine has a chance to make this unit a real winner. The display is easy to read and scrolls smoothly. My next install is the Alpine DVA-9965 AM/FM/HD Radio/CD/DVD/MP3 Player. I have my order in and should receive it by the end of the month - I hope. Frank San Diego

I am a very old fashion minded person and had never thought of using new technology such as navi system to guide my way, but Alpine has totally changed my perspective. I have already tested out the Alpine NVE-N872A in my friend's car and I think this unit is awesome!!! Easy to search for POIs, smooth scrolling, good usability, and the user interface is way better than any other navi systems that I've seen. I just purchased one and about to get it installed tomorrow.

Frank, first off, thanks for referring me to the shop in San Diego. I wanted to ask you if you were able to check out if the unit can be programmed while the vehicle is moving, or does one need to figure a way to "bypass" this, like the old system needed?? (I usually have a passenger program for me while I'm driving) Thanks! Vic |

I got one system myself and love it. Vicpai, your passenger can enter your destination while you're driving. It will pop up a disclaimer message saying something like "If you're the driver, please pull over before using ...blah blah". Just choose OK then it will allow you to use. Frank, did you try out the Zagat feature, this is cool. You can find the top rated restaurant in area. Nice feature only that it doesnt support voice recognition in this feature, you have to use touch screen or remote. |

Alex, thanks! Great!!..that is very refreshing to know!!! BTW, Alpine has never done this stupidity with their OEM(Factory) versions....the reason I'm buying this Nav system is because it the EXACT same unit as in the new ACURA RL, including the NAVTRAFFIC and ZAGAT GUIDE. (Alpine makes the Nav systems for all Honda/Acura vehicles and until the release of the NVE-N872A, the OEM Honda/Acura system was the ABSOLUTE BEST SYSTEM IN THE UNIVERSE) |

I am selling these nav units on ebay for 1475.00 shipping included.. If you wish to buy away from ebay it will be 1450.00 shipping included. These are brand new in the box. I will give you guys a link to my auction.. I have 100 percent feedback and will ship same day payment is made. Also I just installed my own nve-n872a and it is by far the best nav out there. It replaced my avic-d1(that was bypassed.) I'm interested in the new Alpine NVE-N872A, whenever it comes out. Does anyone know if you can input multiple destinations and have it plot the shortest (quickest) route to all of them? The navi that I have in my 2001 Odyssey can do this "salesman" routing with up to 5 entries and I love this feature. Pioneer says they don't do it, and I can't get an answer from Alpine. |

Sidney, Yes you can. It is called "Today's Plan". You can have it choose the shortest route or it can go in the order you enter them in. I think I read in the manual you can store up to 100 destinations. |
