i have a 4 channel sony amp but not sure how i hook up the speakers to it. do i run the speaker wires to behind the deck? should i unhook the deck wiring to the speakers?

Depending on your Head Unit,

You need to run either your pre-amp outs or regular speaker out to your amp, and then from your amp back to your speakers

Deck ----> AMP ----> Speakers

Thats the basics of it, you should really check out www.crutchfieldadvisor.com they give great instructions on how to wire your system.
