Alright, I have 2 12 inch subs and they are both 4 ohms. Can you bring them down to 2 ohms so they can get more power? |

yeah u can. just make sure your amplifier is stable on 2ohms mono (bridged) most are stable only to 4ohms bridged nothing lower. Last thing u wanna do is to fry ya amp or ya subs. If you go for mono block amps you should be allright.
I gather your 2 12" subs are single voice coil SVC) eh. Just wire em in parallel (Not in series). Then u are good to go.

What about a ppi pcx2200 that does 200x2@4ohms and 400x2@2ohms and 800x1@4ohms bridged. I whould be using a avalanche 15 and its dual 2 ohm. Whould it be wired in series to get the 4ohm load to match the amp? |

well at least you got yours sorted out I'm still fritting over whether a 4 channel amp can run my splits and 2 subs (SVC 4ohms each)
Thinking of bridging the rear channels of the amp to run the subs (wired parallel for mono) but the amp might not be stable on 2ohm bridged (on it's rear channel). aarrgghh.. The amp i've in mind is MTX Thunder 1004
what amp you using?

It is a sony xm-d500x mono sub, yeah I know, sony, I like sony and this amp, I read a good REAl article on it buy a real person in the audio buisness. |

OK, to wire two single V.C. 4ohm subs to a 2ohm load this is what you do. First connect a speaker wire lead to each of the four terminals of the 2 V.C's. Now, take the two positive leads and splice them together and repeat for the two negative leads. This will give you one positive wire to plug into the positive terminal and the negative wire to the negative terminal of the amp.
As for MO's question I would like to know that very same thing myself. Anybody out there know how? |

I'd say no2. but the left woofer (on picture 2) should be connected like the woofer on the right (the one with the red line).
That way it would be down to 2ohms.

On ya 2ch amp, connect the positives to the +ve of the left channel and the negatives to the -ve of the right channel. Now you are on mono (bridged).

Can you just wire each sub to run 1 ohm then just hook the Pos1 lead on speaker1 to the amp and Neg1 lead on speaker2 to the amp , then connect Neg1 lead from speaker1 to Pos1 lead on speaker2? (basically 1 ohm speakers wired in series)
I don't know if it cuts the wattage in half (1/2 wattage to each speaker). Anyone know if it works? (this would be hooked up bridged or on a mono amp) |

geeesss...1st you said your subs are dual voice coil (on April 14, 2005 - 10:50 pm now looks like it's single voice coil SPLSQ.
So like me and David had said earlier, you might need to wire your sub parallel together and you are good to go. Those sites would have plenty of info on how U should connect ya sub (SVC) to a 2ch amp.

nope, your sony (xm-d500x mono) is already a mono amp. So there's no 2nd set of terminals hence nothing to bridge in that already mono amp.
Just wire your subs in parallel. +ve of 1 sub to the +ve of the other than connect the combined wire to the positive terminal of your Sony XM-D500X. Do the same to the -ves of the subs but this time connect them to the -ve terminal of your Sony XM-D500X. Ta da!
Your amp is stable on 2ohms (500rms X 1 @ 2ohms)
That's good. Hence you'll be driving your sub at max power output. Go easy on the gain, set it 1/4 way to start off with then ease to 1/3.
You won't have any worries from now on.
