i hooked up my stero i was playing it on about 16 got bold and cranked it up to about 24 then got a higt pitched scratching sounds it this maybe wires touching?????????? what might this b blown highs??????????????

You'll need to explain a bit more. What is your min and max numbers on the volume control? Where does 24 fit in? When does the high scratching sound occur? All the time or on certain song/note?
