Does anyone know if there is enough room for the crossover component
in the kick panel, or does it have to be mounted somewhere else - like
in the door?

you should be able to fit the crossovers behind the service panels in the kick panel area of the car.. stuff them back behind teh panel or carpeting. you'll never see them. That, or up behind the dash.
I don't like putting them inside the doors.. too much water gets in there.
