when i touch the ground to metel, the "power on light" lights up, but it only flashes, so when i move it to different metel, it does the same thing. i had one "good" one when it was on for like 10 seconds, and then shut off. any idea of what this may be>

Sound like not a good ground. Try to sand down to the metal.
