this is probably a somewhat dumb question, but does the thickness of the REM wire really matter. the thing is i don't really understand the rem wire except for the fact that i always thought that it regulated the amp to turn on/off. Recently i split a REM wire so that i could hook it to two different amps and it seems that there is far lesser power than when i had only one amp. since this is the only difference from the prevoius amp (lessened REM wire thickness) could this be why the power is far less?

No, remote wire has nothing to do with your amp's output power. The remote wire carries very low current so you don't need a thick wire.
If your amps are sounding weaker, then check your gain/level settings. The power can also be affected by the ohmage. If you had lower ohms on 1 amp, then it'll sound louder cause it is putting out more power. Now if you split that to 2 amps and supply higher ohms to each amp, then you'll get less power. The only way to compare is to apply identical ohms.
