I have a 1994 4runner with an oem amplifier behind the stock cd player, the amp is blown, and i need a new cd player. If i got a new, aftermarket CD player with decent wattage, would i have to get a new OEM amplifier, or do i eliminate the need for it?

if the head unit you buy has it's own power, that should be all you need. you can also get adapters to allow you to replace the factory amplifier with a new aftermarket amp if you wish, too.
www.pac-audio.com makes adapters for doing this.
