that depends entirely on the coil configuration of the subs you purchase, and how you choose to wire them to the amp.

that's how final load is determined.

they are dual 2 ohm subs, so could i wire them at the 1 ohm power load that amps have, or would i have to power them by the 2 ohm power load? If i can power them at the 1 ohm i can get the approx Watts i want to power them, otherwise I would have to buy a more expensive amp that can do a better 2 ohm load, please help

one pair of dual 2 ohm coil subs.
you'd wire the pair of coils in series for each sub.

that yields a pair of 4 ohm subs.

then wire the subs together in parallel for a 2 ohm load at the (mono) amplifier.

If you were to wire the coils in parallel, you'd have a pair of 1 ohm subs. Then if you wired the subs in parallel you'd get a half-ohm load.

If you wired the subs in series, you'd get a 1 ohm load again with the coils in parallel.

Now if you want to run a half ohm load, look around eBay for a used Orion 2100HCCA.
It's a 2 channel, 1 ohm stable amp.
You could put one sub on each channel and deliver each sub 400 watts RMS from a huge class AB amp.

If you want to run a mono 2 ohm load, look around for an amp that delivers 2000 watts RMS into 1 channel @ 2 ohms.

the only way to get a 1 ohm mono load though, is to use a pair of dual 4 ohm coil subs.

the other option is to use two amps. one per sub, and deliver a 1 ohm load to each amplifier.
that's very possible too.. the JBL BP1200.1 and the Kicker KX1200.1 both offer up 1200wRMS x 1 @ 1 ohm, and a pair of those will give you what you want for the subs.

0ga split to 4ga or 2ga @ the amps
you'd also want a HO alternator to handle the draw from the amps
they each can take up to 115A of current

Hello,

I just hooked up a new clarion amp to 2 6x9's, and a 8 inch bazooka bass tube. It sounds great, but shuts off in about 5 minutes. My friend who installed it swares it is hooked up correctly. Any advice?

4 channel amp?
rear two channels bridged to the tube?
is the tube the 4 ohm model or 2 ohm?
what is the rated power on this amp?
what size power line did you run for the amp and how is it grounded?
is the power line run to the battery directly?
need some more information

It is a 4 channel amp
rear 2 channels bridged to the tube
4 ohm sub
400 watt att apa450 - 100 watts bridge or 50 by 4 (maybe)
8 guage grounded to the sheat metal body
No, the power line is not run directly to the battery. The power runs to a terminal (4 gauge wire) terminal block to battery (8 guage)

sounds like it's wired well.

oh wait, also make sure the gain isn't set too high!
if gains are cranked up above about half way, it could cause the amp to enter thermal protection mode due to clipping

that's what it has been doing, entering thermal protection mode. My friend the installer is not around!!... Where and what do the gains look like? Is there a way to test the amp?

Thank you,

A

on the end plate of the amp
small dial or knob
labeled gain or input sensitivity
turn it down to about 1/4 or 1/2 at most.
turn it all the way down and start there, going up to one quarter or about 9 o'clock

The gain being too high was the problem. Thank you much for your assistance.
