i have a 97' civic 4 door. i'm puting a 551s power amp and don't know what guage use. i plan to put the amp in the trunk.

For amps around 1000W, you can use 4 gauge, anything higher, try 2 or 1gauge.
If however your amp is under 500W, 8gauge is fine.

these are the specs of the wattage.
140 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms
275 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms
550 watts RMS x 1 bridged output at 4 ohms
since it is over 500 i will need the 4 guage right, and what type of fuse should i use, a friend mine told me to use 80 but don't know if he is right.

For your amp, I wouldn't go any higher than 60A. In fact, 50A is all you really need.
