Quick question... I know that speakers hooked up to a head unit do not sound nearly as good as they do through an amp, but different HU's put out better sound to the speakers then others do. I have a Sony deck, (one of the newest mp3 ones) but it doesn't deliver that of great SQ. If my Infinity speakers are ran through an amp, but since the amp is connected to the HU, will the SQ of the speakers depend only on the amp? Or will the HU factor it at all as well? Thanks alot. |

The HU has some effect, yes. the level of voltage the HU puts to RCAs, and their cleanliness plays a huge factor. However, the SQ is greatly improved by using an amp. the quality of the amp is also an issue.

a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. the ehad unit is your signal source. that's where your pre-out line driver is based, and where the DACs for processing the initial signal are housed. If the head unit isn't good, nothing after it will help. Sony is one of the worst brands for car audio to boot, so that doesn't help much to be honest. Also be sure the amplifier is decent as well, and properly adjusted.
