Hey Everyone, I have been looking at these message boards for some time before I had made my mind up to buy my sound system.

I have just entered my car in a local sound off, and took home first prize in the novice class. I pushed out 143.2db, legal! + seats and backboard were still on.

I used 2 Coustic CF 12s and A solid Audio Amp, 760w@2ohm...built the box myself 1.5ft. Not very expensive stuff... Very happy with my results.

Coustic has been around for some time now... please be open minded. Their carbon fiber series is really something, 400w RMS, 3" voice coil... stiched cone to surround. You not only hear the quality but can visually see the quality in the Sub.. see for yourself do a search in google for coustic cf124 or visit http://www.coustic.com/

I did some research before i bought these subs and had to find the line between quality and cost. I didnt want to spend too much but also wanted something above average. So these subs were my answer.

The Amp used was truly unkown. SOLID AUDIO F11D.. but it is a mono CLASS D amp, and it sure does not look cheap. 1100w @1ohm. at high vol. for about 20mins of use, it only feels warm. These amps are made in USA the same guys that make Cutting Edge amps

Coustic has been around since the 80s, yeah. I used to sell and install Coustic amplifiers and signal processors at our shop.
My first system I built, many years ago, used Coustic amplifiers, and one of their crossovers.
They do make good products for the price.
Good entry level company, similar to JBL in features and quality.

Check out these websites, if want more info. on the AMPS. as i said these amps are not expensive. I paid R1800 Rands which is about $250. Look at the Class D range very powerful yet compact.

Glasswolf...

At the moment I have used a port tuned to 35htz.. this gave me a reading of 143.2db

Would it make a difference if I used higher frequency shorter ports eg. 45htz or 50htz?

yes.
try tuning the box to about 65-70Hz actually
it'll sound lousy, but it'll be right near the resonant frequency of the cabin so it'll be at peak efficiency.
that'll get your best SPL.
