I feel really dumb, I just bought a 99 truck which has a Kenwood stereo that rotates so the front does not show when the truck is turned off. I was pushing buttons and it closed and now it WILL NOT open. I have pushed on it and looked for a hidden button but I can't find anything. I do not have a remote or a manual for this stereo and I don't recall what model it is. I only know it is a Kenwood 1 disc am/fm doomer a job. ANY information would be so appreciated. Thanks bunches. |

usually on the kenwood mask models, you just press in on one of the left or right top corners. was the radio already in ir when you bought the truck? mayeb radio was FUBAR. did you check the fuses? i'm sure you have, but, did you try harsh language? i had that work for me once. |

Hey Dawn, if the Kenwood stereo is not motor operated, you should be able to open it by sliding a business card near one of the corners. I had similiar problem with my Kenwood unit. |

For kenwood krc 791, you can use KDC-C719 or KDC-C467 cd changers. You can also use RF cd changers. They work with any HU. |

Hello, I have CD/radio KDC-MPV622 w/sirius satelite radio service. Recently I had to replace my car battery, since then, my radio face plate will not open. I tried to press the upper left hand corner per manual and still will not open. I also have tried to use the remote and that doesnt work either. The radio was turned off when the battery was replaced. I have checked the fuses, replaced them. Would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Help! - Kenwood kdc-x959 I just bought a used car with a Kenwood kdc-x959 stereo in it. I didn't get a manual for the stereo and I am losing my mind trying to figure out stupid little things like setting the clock and managing the radio presets. The Kenwood website doesn't have this manual or a manual that even looks close on the faceplate control setup. The request to their support website has gone unanswered. I am hoping to get a copy of the manual or at least tips on setting the time and controlling the radio presets. Thank you. Please email me penguinsltd@gmail.com -Dave Roberts penguinsltd@gmail.com |

Front Loaded Audio-Out Jack: I am looking for a Kenwood stereo that has a headphone jack on the front, so that I can plug in a seperate MP3 player. I know the stereo will play MP3 CD's but I want to be able to plug in my MP3 player from time to tame as not all my music is ready to go on MP3 CD. I simply cannot find a car stereo that does this. If anyone knows of one I would very much appreciate it. So, either a headphone jack our a non-boosted normal audio out jack. Cheers |

I have a KDC-519 and the faceplate moves, but when i put the faceplate on, the screen just 'scans' (horizontal lines that start at the top and slide up on the display) and thats it. after about 5 seconds it 'rejects' the faceplate and folds it down to be removed (but doesnt flip over to hide) id really like to know, should i spend $50 on a new faceplate for it, or is it jsut something simple? i have tried resetting, checked all fuses i could find, even took radio out and checked all the wiring. even tho it's 2 years old, i spent $600 on my system and now i listen to my tires on the road please help email me as well as posting reply jellybean@feralfilms.net thank you all so much |

Hi people, I just bought a car with a Kenwood KDC 2016 stereo in it. Now I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find a FREE manual or at least a short explanationof all buttons etc. Basic operation is easy enough, but things I've come across already are loudness, balance and fader controls... Any help would be really appreciated |

Hi! i have a kenwood stero with one of those automatically flipping faceplates, and when you turn the unit off, the plate flips like its supposed to, but when you hit the eject button (which is the same as the tilt button) it only adjusts the angle by a little but, not enough to let the cd come out, and when you hold the button for a second, it flips upside down, any ideas on what it may be? thanx, email: neattouch648@sbcglobal.net |

i got one for everyone, how does one get the Kenwood KDC-516s out of ones car? You see that little peice of data tape that runs from the flip-face to the unit has worn down to cracking and becoming useless. All of you out there with flip-face units remember this post! It started with the fashing sometimes, then it would'nt work sometimes so i'd close it and open it a few times... you see where this is going anyways any hints on removal would be greatly recieved. Oh yah, when i change that data tape cable thingy ill leave instructions for anyone who might want them. it seems like it just slides into place, so its more work getting it apart than it is to fix it... DAMN YOU KENWOOD!!! I mean, when it works it sounds great!!! |

I have a paper manual(book)ordered from Kenwood, CD changer maybe.. It sits in the boot and I can put about 6 CD's in there.. I am also having a problem with the tape deck.. keeps "spitting" the tapes back out again.. the error I get when I change to CD either with the remote or on the system itself is CH NO? maybe the wires? who knows.. close to going in the bin I say!!! |

Trina it almost sounds like the CD changer is waiting for you to press a number. What would happen if you pressed 1 or 2 from the remote control? Does it change to cd1 or cd2? Just something to try.

sounds like kenwood car stereos suck. I just bought a car with one installed- and of course like most ofmthe post here it doesnt work. Has power, all the wiring is correct- it flips around when i start the car- but thats it- give me a $29.99 realistic am/fm cassette anytime- sounds crappy but always works- at least the radio part- lol- thank you new technology- btw the model im moaning about is the kdc-5019- looks like its loaded with features- too bad they dont work- piece of crap |

i REALLY need help. i had a newer Pioneer stolen and ended up breaking out my old Kenwood KDC 7011. once i got it all plugged in and ready to go, i popped in a cd, had it playing and when i was doing this test, i was juyst holding the power line with my thumb and finger, it slipped and the power was cut to the deck while the cd was playing. this is the deck that turns backwards when you shut it off. well, NOW i can't turn it off or on...no music is playing, it's sitting there FACE OUT with a little glow going on but no numbers or words. won't eject or anything, and seems like it is 'half' on, the only way i can shut it off now is by unplugging it....when i plug it back in, it makes a whirring noise then turns on a small glow and just sits there! what do i do????? i will send free Tshirt and cd to whoever helps me first, i want tunes back in my car!!!!!!!! ;] <img> |

Hi peeps, Please can someone try and help me. I have a kenwood cd player. It not new. Not one with the front flip thingy. Just pops in! Worked really well untill yesturday. I took my car lighter out of the little hole its in and the stereo went off and spat out the CD. It will let me put it back in and out but there is no music, no display and i'm drivin round with no tunes! I looked at the manual and it said to try the reset button. I've done this but it makes a funny sound and then nothing! It also said to check the fuse but if its making noices and ejecting the cd i don't think it can be the problem.

OK, guys. Here's one for ya. Got into my car this morning and the stereo was playing but the flip face plate was dead - no lights, no working buttons, no nothing. I couldn't change the channel, turn off the stereo, or control the sound. You would know that one channel that was playing was CSPAN. Now THAT's the real bummer. Anyway, I tried the reset button and it reset it but didn't fix the problem. Any suggestions? |

The indication CHNO" means that your head unit is not dectecting the stacker. |

Yo CSPAN Ron, The ribbon cable from the face to the head is broken, it needs to be replaced. It is a very common problem with these Kenwoods. I fix these a lot. Should cost $30 - $40 to get it fixed at a shop. Or you can buy the part and solder it in yourself. just search http://www.pacparts.com for your model. |

HELP!!! My Kenwwod KDC 519 went lights completely out! I noticed today while driving that my cd player (Kenwood KDC 519) decided that the face wont light up... its just blank, no lights or anything. CD's and the radio work fine but there is no display on the front. Does anyone know if this is a common problem or could a wire have loosened? I dont have the tools to take out the unit so Im hesitant in bringing it to a shop to spend the money on it so before i do so, i thought id ask for some advice. If it matters, I drive a 98 VW GTi VR6. Thanks a lot. any help would be most appreciated. ian |

Hi Peeps, The info on this site is great. I am 300 miles from home, and inadvertantly switched off my flip front kenwood and didn't know how to switch it back on. Pressing the left hand side did the trick. When I get home I will see if I can scan my manual and put it on as an attachment- might help some of you out there.

Hello! The past 2 days my Kenwood KDC-MPV5025 has been on and off spitting out CD's when I put them in. Last night it did it again, and when the CD would stay in the player, the screen read E-05 and wouldn't play. In my manual it say that E-05 means the CD is being put in upside down, but it's not, and that my player will spit out CD's when they are dirty, but I even tried inserting a brand new CD! Now instead of doing this on and off, it has completely stopped playing CD's. Has this happened to anyone, what should I do?

KristanInAK, sounds like your cd player has dirty lens. Have you tried a lens cleaner? How old is the unit? Is it under warranty? Like all man made things, it will eventually die. |

I'll try a lens cleaner It's a little over a year old, and my warranty was only for a year... I hope it wouldn't die so soon! Thanks for the advice.. |

I have the exact same problem as KristanIanAk. The same model. Same error. I was driving to work listening to the new eminem curtian call album(scratchless) and it just stopped playing. Now whenever i put a CD in it says E-05. But i also tried to clean the lens and I think the cd is not spinning. I placed it in with the words facing me and when I ejected it it was still in the same position. If my cd player is fucked up...im just going to but a cheap 100 dollar pioneer. I had no problems with that brand at all but it was stolen from my car two years ago and i bought the kenwood mpv5025, and it would skip on a hardly scratched cd and it would not play cd-r's that look like vinyl records. |

ask your "friend". He is the one who should have entered the code when he "bought" it. When you first hook up your stereo you are prompted to enter a security code. Once you unplug the stereo you have to enter the code again. It is supposed to stop people from stealing stereos. And to people like KristaninAK who had the same problem like me. Unplug your stereo, then plug it back in, enter your code and everything should be back to normal. That is what i did and everything is fine. |

I recently got back from Iraq and discovered my Kenwwod KDC-519 display lights are completely out! I reattached the face and turned the radio on. The display lights do not come on. CD's play and the radio works fine but there is no display on the front. I noticed when the face folds down to insert a CD, the display comes on, but the channel select buttons don't operate. I attempted to adjust the contrast but no luck. I am thinking it is a ribbon cable issue, but shouldn't there be more problems. I would like a second opinion before I get it fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I have a Kenwood KRC-PS1077R that is an older casette version. The other day all the buttons locked up. It played music of a station at a fixed loud volume. On the screen it displayed the number 8. I could only disconnect the sound by disconnecting the battery. Now when it comes on with the face plate rotating, it makes no sound and still the number 8 comes up. It will not respond to my mask key. Any thoughts?? |

I just bought a used car with a Kenwood KDC 519. The previous owner decided to take all the amps and equipment out of the trunk before they traded it but they left the deck and all the wiring. The door speakers work but the rear speakers don't. Since all the wiring is still in the car and still probably plugged into the outputs on the back of the car, would that bypass the existing factory rear speakers? |

Hey, i have a KRC-408 head with a KDC-C715 (6 cd changer in the back). i checked the fuses and the wiring and its all good, yet i cant turn on the damn radio. ive tried the reset button and the changer at the back, one can hear it reset but that changes nothing with the faceplate. the cassette player on the head qill take in a cassette and will spit it out if you lightly press the reset button but aside from that, nothing else works. any help would be very much appreciated. HELP!!! My Kenwwod KDC 2016 front face plate won't light up! The face wont light up... no lights but during the day you can see the station and tracks. CD's and the radio work fine but there is no display light on the front. Does anyone know if this is a common problem or could a wire have loosened? Do any one know where I can find a free download manual for this CD player. Thanks a lot. any help would be most appreciated. Seth |

Hi all, I have a Kenwood KMD-PS970 with the flipdown Mask system. My problem: when the display flips up the display lights up for a fraction of a second and then goes out. So just the backlight of the buttons remains on. Sometimes it stays on a bit longer but eventually goes out...Does anyone here know what it could be or maybe had the same problem? Thanks in advance for any possible answers. |

Why are all of these questions being posted in the Disc Changers forum and not the head unit forum? I already saw a few posts stating this and I'll state it again. THE RIBBON CABLE IS BROKEN OR WORN ON ALL OF THESE UNITS. A new one can be purchased from www.kenwoodparts.com. |

I just did the same thing as everybody else on this list seems to have done. Took the faceplate off my Kenwood KDC 83R (circa 1990) and voila, I can't fire it up. I hit the reset button to the left of the volume knob, and it beeps at me once. I'm sure a security code of some sort is required, but I have no screen to enter anything on. Any ideas out there? |

I took the head unit out to check the wires and everything looks good. And now im out of ideas. Can someone please help me fix this problem. I was listening to it loud. How to i check if something is blown i dont have a tool to see if power is getting to the unit and i dont have alot of money for these mechanic guys to fix it. |
