UK satellite TV users: Loyalty pays?

[ Create New Article ] [ Reply ] [ Edit ]

I came across this U.K. news recently about United Kingdom.

UK satellite TV broadcast provider, Sky TV is hoping to start a loyalty program for their subscribers by using a currently-empty smartcard slot in their set-top boxes. Say, for instance, you're a serious Comedy Central addict. You could be rewarded in a points system for your loyalty, redeemable for special offers or even premium programming. Other, more evil ideas include reward programs for those who actually watch advertisements.

I just wish they can implement it in United States as well. Hopefully Dish Network or DirecTV will start it off soon to attract more subscribers. Just by simply leaving the TV switched off, but setting smartcard to switch to the appropriate programs all day long and I am on my way to enjoy a cheaper home entertainment service.
