Am trying to use VCR as a slave to record whatever is coming over 8000HD box from Comcast. But there seems to be no signal out at either cable out or "vcr archive" on the 8000HD. I get a black screen, though I do get the number 3, Line 1 and Line 2. I should instead see what the Comcast box is tuned to. But I have no evidence of a signal of any sort at cable out or "vcr archive." This is second box from Comcast. Is this a hardware or sotfware issue? I am certain that everything is connected properly

You have to tell the 8000 to "record to VCR" before it will enable the composite outputs.
Yes, it does suck that way.
