Could someone guide me in wiring up the following system:

+ Cable TV coaxial (no box)
+ Onkyo Receiver
+ Onkyo CD/DVD Changer
+ Toshiba 27" Flat Screen TV

To clarify my earlier question - I planned on running component video from DVD/CD to TV for video feed. I planned on optical cable from DVD to Receiver for audio feed.

The store sold me digital stereo cable which I am trying to decide if I need..

Looks like you're on the right track.
Cable TV goes directly to the TV
TV audio outputs goes to the receiver, this is where you will need the stereo cables.
