Edit Post

I do not have a Hi-Fi. I would therefore like to buy a home theathre system with added good audio quality so it can double as a decent stereo as well. My budget is about $1000. As an alternative I am willing to initially only buy a DVD, receiver, front and center speakers and to add to the system as my budget allow.

I have found that the shops here (South Africa) offer the following products in my price range

Yamaha RXV440 receiver and 540 DVD and Yamaha speaker package, Denon 1604 receiver and NAD 512 DVD and Heybrook speaker package or Harman Kardon 1550 Receiver, Harman Kardon DVD 21 and Infinity HCS speaker package.

I would like any suggestions to which products would be a best fit, and if the choice of front and center speakers is the best choice if I do not buy a complete speaker package initially.
