I just purchased a Panasonic SC-HT900. It's my first time dealing with surround sound and It's a little bit foreign to me. I have a few specific questions.

1. How far behind the listener should the rears be? I have either the option of directly behind the listener, or about 6-7 feet behind.

2. What guage speaker wire should I buy? The distance for the rears would be about 15 feet if directly behind (see above) or about 21 feet if backed up. The system specs say that it is 700 watts.

3. What is the order of hookups in regards to dealing with the DirectTv receiver and the TV? For example, do I go from the DirectTV receiver and into the TV and then take the the sound from the TV and go into the audio receiver. I want the ability to watch TV without using my system. I also want the ability to hook up sound from my laptop which has a mini-jack output.

4. What else should I know?

Any help or advice when hooking this up would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam
