I listen to music a lot and watch movies quite often. That means, my need for music and movie is 50% and 50%.

I'm considering either Onkyo HT-S770 Home theater system , or to buy a Onkyo TX-SR701 receiver and set up my own home theater.

Anyone has experienced both setups? Is there highly noticeable difference when listening to music CD?

My experience is to set up your own. There are too many compromises I couldn't live with in a Home Theater in a Box. Speakers are just horrendous and seem to have been neglected by the manufacturer in order to get a cheaper price to the consumer, but that is the point of that, isn't it?

Shop around for a set of speakers and get your receiver.
Yes, there is a huge difference when listening to music cd.
