I purchased several years ago a receiver with six analog inputs for surround sound. But I only used it for stereo sound and never hooked up additional speakers. Now I want to use it for surround sound, but my new HDTV of course only has a digital output for sound. Is there any method or device I can use to get surround sound on my receiver from my TV?

Greetings,

You should be taking your TV sound from a STB (Set Top Box, either cable or satellite) which is most likely going to have the analog outputs you need.

If you live in the States then you will need a STB once the digital conversion takes place in June. From this you can take your audio, if not then an old VCR could help you out.

I don't think you understand. I have a high-definition TV. I am currently only watching digital broadcasts so I do not need a converter box. I'm trying to figure how to get 5.1 surround sound not standard two channel audio which would not be a problem if that's all I wanted.
