I have a Phillips surround sound system. I would post the model but can't find it on there so i'll just post this pic at the end. So my tv a 27" ilo has a digital coaxial out on it. So I went and bought a cord and hooked it up from the tv to the orange one that is in the pic. But I can't get it to put out any sound besides when I watch dvd's but that has nothing to do with the tv. I'm thinking it has to do with a setting on the tv but since I have no manual and I can't find anything in the menu I am lost please help. <img> |

From looking at this picture you have a digital audio in but no out. If I read your post correctly what you are connecting together are each looking for a signal. Neither is generating one. If you have a cable or satellite box use your new cable to hook to the orange "output" (that it hopefully has) of that. Hope this helps |

Oops, now I see another problem, the photo of your post is labeled DVD player and I see only one picture. |

Sorry for the confusion. If that is the DVD player in the photo then you may well have a digital out of your tv and, if so, the question becomes, do you have a cable or satellite box? |

That makes sense, we have had this issue several times. What you are watching on TV from your cable the way you have it set up now is not digital and is not processed from analog to digital by your TV. Therefore there is nothing output to your receiver. To solve your problem you would need to get a box from your provider or, if there are red/white audio outs on you TV you could use those. It won't be true 5.1 but it will certainly sound better than your TV speakers. |

Well there are no red and white out puts on the tv. And I really don't want to want to call cable people. I'm not so consered about getting the tv part in surround sound as I would just like to play xbox and ps3 in surround sound so if there is a way to do that could you explain it to me. If I have to buy something from wal-mart or some place like that its ok. |

Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem%26item%3D280225375121&ssPageName=A DME:L:LCA:US:1123 Plug in anything you want then run the red/white audio to the Philips and the Composite video to you TV. |

Unfortunately, by next February you will NEED a cable box to get anything at all. What you are getting right now is not digital so in a way, yes this will be fixed but not exactly the way that you prefer. |
