Depends on the stereo, we need some more details but I would suspect that you will not be thrilled with a $100.00 stereo.

If you want to use a system for a TV look into a 5.1 Home Theater In A Box.

If you can wait, I'd save up and go for something like http://shoponkyo.com/detail.cfm?productid=HT-SR600&modelid=140&group_id=1&detail =1&ext_war=1 which is $169 if you register with their site. It will give you a lot more options if you ever want to expand later. If you can wait even longer, jump up to http://shoponkyo.com/detail.cfm?productid=TX-SR505&modelid=62&group_id=1&detail= 1&ext_war=1 and find a decent set of used bookshelf speakers (Paradigm Atoms come to mind, craigslist is your friend) which will be a huge jump in quality. Then, add pieces as you go. Either way though, generally a $100 Walmart system will leave a lot to be desired.

Freddie and Angelo are right. You'll be throwing your $100 bucks down the toilet.

Get at least an entry level Yamaha/Pioneer/Denon receiver (they're cheap) and maybe some Fluance speakers.
