Really struggling to get Dolby 5.1 with my new combination. I have the newest Motorola/comcast box with an HDMI cable going directly to my Pioneer PDP5080, and an optical cable from the TV to the optical input on my JVC RX-884 receiver. Cannot find a combination to get dolby 5.1 to save my life. Any suggestions? |

Have you confirmed that the broadcast from your cable company is in 5.1? Having a digital connection is no guarantee that you will be getting 5.1 out of your TV channels. Do you get 5.1 when watching DVDs? |

Greg, your Pioneer will not output any signal on its optical output from any incoming HDMI signal. Connect the cable box's digital output directly to the JVC. |

John S is correct the digital out on the TV is used only if you have a roof antena hooked up to the TV as your source. If you are using a cable box use the digital out on the cable box to the receiver. |

Yes, the optical out from the TV is likely for sending digital audio to your receiver when your TV is tuned to OTA broadcasts. |
