Hello, I was looking for a new audio forums to join and came across this one.
Some pictures of my "Home Theater". Nothing too fancy, just a nice comfy place me & the family can watch movies. We had a budget of $3,000 and I think when it was all said and done we spent around $3,200. Thats was for furniture, TV, sound system, stands, mounts, wires, the whole nine.
Unfortunately I was not a part of this community when I put it all together, so I made some newbie mistakes, like buying a HTIB, monster cables, and overpaying for speaker wire. Later I found sites like monoprice.com. I wouldn't say I regret buying a HTIB because it really sounds good, and fits nicely in the room. If I had to do it all over agian, the amount I could of saved on cables & wires I could of pieced together a better system.
Okay on to the pics.
This is a picture of the remote controlled lights. I found these on clearance at Home Depot for $11 each. They are controlled by my Harmony remote.

Here is a picture of the rear surrounds I ran the wire through the drop ceiling and put these speaker plates to clean up the look.

Here is a picture of the couch, ottomans, and surround speakers. I love my couch I fit a family of 5 on there comfortably.

This is the TV we picked, it was 2.5 years ago, I didn't have the money and couldn't pull the trigger on flat panel. We got a great deal on this Toshiba HDTV. Other then the size I still love it. This picture also includes the two latest additions, the Wii & the gas fireplace. Its a basement so it can get cold in the winters, so this really heats it up nicely.

Here are several pics of the built in shelves I made. The closet that you see hides a sump pump and water meter, so it was hollow allowing me to cut a whole in the wall to mount them. I don't have really good pics of the DVDs themselves, but I can get some better pics if someone wants. The shelf on the left is all TV on DVD. I enjoy watching seasons after they are released, especially network TV.

Excellent job Josh. You did a lot more work than I did on my basement HT. That couch looks like a nice place to nap during a boring movie, or how about golf on a Sunday afternoon? 
Also, there are far worse HTiBs than that Yamaha of yours, and there's no need to apologize for
it. This is a very impressive HT for the first attempt. Congratulations and enjoy.

I got the speaker plates at Radio Shack, which was a big mistake because they cost so much. If you buy some try monoprice.com they are a lot cheaper. |

speaker plates are also available from good electrical suppliers. look for one who advertises "Data" and the like as not all suppliers carry them in my experience.
Good quality wall plates are not cheap.
they can add $40 - $100 to your install depending on how many spkrs you are installing.
approx $5 - $10 per plate depending on how many fittings. |
