Finally have my system going except for the above issue. I'm using HDMI (by the way, John if you read this it was totally the cable box that was not transferring the HDMI out to go from the cable box to the amp(Onkyo 894), the DVR is a Samsung 160 (HDMI out to Onkyo), HDMI out from amp (onkyo) to my Panasonic Th-50 plasma. My question is can set up a connection only between the cable box (out - maybe S-Video and RCA audio or optical audio) and the DVR (S-video in and optical or RCA audio in) so I can record TV shows between the two? I've tried and I don't know if when I try to play them the HDMI conversion stops the process or if I'm doing something that can't happen. Basically I'm wondering if I can have another "mini" output from the cable box to the DVR to record shows and then use the main connections (HDMI) to watch the recorded shows? Thanks in advance, sorry for the long question!
