I wanted to see if I hooked up my Blue Ray DVD palyer and the Sat receiver straight to the tv by HDMI cables and then ran a digital audio optical cable out from the tv to my receiver would I lose the surround sound effects? My reveiver does not have HDMI inputs or outputs
This could change in the future, but to my knowledge the only time the digital audio output on any display works is when the TV's ATSC tuner detects a digital broadcast over the air via a connected antenna.
Run digital audio from the player and sat box directly into the receiver.
