What is the best HTIB that can be used to hook up a PS3 ? What is the optimum number of HDMI ports that it needs to have ? Does the HTIB need to have HDMI input/output ? Thanks

Well it needs to have at least 1 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out, and if you want sound to go through the HDMI cable then you need to find one that will process sound in HDMI. If it says HDMI "passthrough" then it will not process sound and you will need to run another audio cable from the PS3 to the HTIB. If your tv has 1080P resolution then you should look for the HTIB to handle 1080P "full HD" video as well. There's probably not too many HTIB like this so happy hunting. You'll be better off to find a separate receiver and speakers that has the features you want, but it's up to you.

What else are you going to hook up to the HTIB? Cable box? What tv do you have? Do you want 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound?

I have a samsung slimfit lcd...i have a HTIB connected right now. A satellite box, and the tv are the only thing connected to the HTIB. It's a small room so 5.1 works pretty well...i did read alot about buying seperate receivers and how its better, but I'd rather just buy an all-in-one device. The satellite receiver however is connected via s-video cable to the HTIB and I have to put that on VCR mode to get sound from the speakers, but it works just fine.

what models also process sounds through HDMI ? It would be wonderful if I could find one that did that.

Here's a few HTIB that have HDMI connections, though I don't know if all of them process audio through HDMI:

Most of the HTIB's that have HDMI connections also come with a DVD player, and if you were going to use your PS3 for your DVD player then you're paying for something you don't need. Personally you would be better off to buy a receiver and speakers separately. How much are you wanting to spend?
