My tv has only rca (composite?) inputs. I plan on getting an apple tv unit that has only component (and hdmi) output. Will I be able to take a component cable from the apple tv unit and plug it into my tv?

apple.com/appletv if you are wondering.

If your TV only has yellow connectors for video input, that would seem to be for a composite connection, yes.

The Apple TV component outputs are three cables (none of them coded yellow) - you would need a scan convertor and possibly other components to downconvert those three signals into an RCA plug for your TV's single, yellow video input.

I haven't seen an inexpensive and simple way to down-convert from component to composite for your type of straightforward application.

A person in the Tivo community reported getting this accomplished, at a price which makes me wonder if you should either back off on the Apple TV purchase . . . or consider a new television:
