I am not too experienced with running speaker wires so when I ran them in the bacement ceiling, I ran them right next to an existing electrical line because it was a convenient location. I don't believe the wire is shielded (typical 16 gage Radio Shack wire). Will this cause interference? Should I relocate the wires further from the electric line?

It would be a good idea. If you can't then you should still not run them side by side you should cross them perpedicular to each other like this + .

Yup, not a good idea to run them side by side.
