Greetings.
We're getting a 40" flatscreen, and want to hook up surround sound. It's a smallish room, roughly 10' x 12'. Third floor condo - we don't need theatre volumes, and 5.1 surround should be fine.
The final decision hasn't been made, but I suspect we'll be driving Paradigm Atom speakers which, per Paradigm's website

are okay with 15-80 watts/side. It'll be those or something comparable.
I'm looking at the Harmon-Kardon AVR 145 receiver, which sports 40 watts / channel in surround mode (into 8 ohms -- no specs for 4 ohms). Perhaps not a visually aesthetic treat, but at $300/new, perhaps it's good enough.
Any reasons why I might not want to get it? I could spend up to $500 for an Onkyo 703 or a NAD T743 (I rather like our 320BEE), if the money's buying something worthwhile.
All thoughts welcome.

That is a great receiver and much better power supply than the Onkyo. However, if you are fond of your BEE, there is nothing you will not like about the T743. I believe it is something very worthwhile |
