Hi - I have just got a new TV (sony bravia U series 26" (KDL26u2000)
My dvd player has component output (red green and blue) and are labeled Y Pr Pb
so i connected my dvd to my TV adn went to dvd setup menu and changed the output mode to component, now my tv just shows black ??? and the screen mode changes from wide to smart then back to wide again...
my dvd does not have HDMI out.
please help
Also, what is the best connection type for my dvd to my tv ??
Video (yellow red white)
Compenent (red blue gren()Y Pb Pr)
S-Video
Scart

Y is black/white
Pb is blue
Pr is red
If your picture is black then maybe your either have inputs connected wrong or the wires maybe loose. Also check that the settings are for 16x9 widescreen in the dvd player along with the component setting. |

hmm. I dont know then - my dvd is set for 16/9 widescreen and component output but still a black picture. my dvd has red green and blue outputs. No black/white ???
also, if i change my dvd output to video or S-Video the image is black and white. (i only know how to get to the settings without seeing anything becase i remembered the keystrokes. Setup, right down down enter ... lol)
any help ??
The dvd player is a Toshiba SD-220E (its old yes) |

Check if your TV is set to accept progressive scan or interlaced signals...check the dvd player as well if it is progressive scan capable. Their signals should match.
Another thing to check...your video cables. Remove them one at a time and see if the color changes on the screen. This will rule out the cables at fault. |

pulled out blue - pic changes colour
pulled out red - pic changes colour
pulled out blue + red pic went black and white
pulled out green and left red and blue plugged in - no pic atall.
also, when i put my TV onto AV3 (dvd component) it says in the top left

Seems like your cables are at fault. You should see a picture even with only 1 cable plugged in. |

No, Berny there would not be a picture if he unplugged the green (black/white ) cable out. That removes the slate for the red and blue to work off of. That's why the pic went black and white when he pulled out the red and blue. To me, and I am not familiar with the UK's system for HD, it sounds like the TV has a problem with either the HZ the picture is being displayed at, or the signal itself is not supported. Good luck and have a chat with someone who is knowledgeable in the UK about this stuff. Maybe salesman or tech shop. |
