Hi,

I'm looking to buy new speakers for my computer. I currently have a subwoofer and 5 small speakers (Logitech, bought for about $100 many years ago).

My question is:

How do I know that I will be able to connect the various surround sound systems available to my computer? Do I need a receiver? Is it possible to have the speakers connected to my TV AND computer? Also, do you guys have any suggestions for systems?

I'm looking at systems (Polk Audio RM 6800 or 6900, Mirage Nanosat Home Theather system, etc.) for up to $700 or $750.

Thank you!

Check your computer's sound card and what its capabilities are.

Some PCs have a built-in 5.1 speaker outputs, some with digital outputs that can connect to a receiver, some have analog outputs and most have only stereo outputs.

If not sure check the documentation that came with your PC.
