Thread: Is HDMI bidirectional? |

I'm hooking up a new HDTV and home theater with cable box. The Panasonic home theater SC-HT740 has only RCA left and right jacks, and an HDMI jack labeled "output." It has no coaxial or optical inputs. So am I correct that there is no way to send 5.1 channel sound into the home theater unit? Or is the HDMI bidirectional, so I can feed 5.1 sound into that jack? The manual and Panasonic Help Line say just hook up the RCA jacks. |

Thanks for your reply, which confirms my findings from more investigation today. I hadn't understood that there's a difference between Dolby Digital 5.1, which requires digital input, and the more elementary Pro Logic, which I now realize is all this system can do. I also learned that the unit has the HDMI output because that's necessary to take full advantage of the upconversion DVD player video it has. |
