All, I've already tried the CEA connection guide, but it doesn't give me a good answer about the VCR, so I'm hoping you all can help. I have: Satellite receiver/dvr Dish Network Dish PVR 508--specs here: http://smurl.name/32ye DVD recorder/player Panasonic DMR-ES15S---specs here, click on operating instructions: http://smurl.name/2n5p Phillips real flat 27" SDTV model 27PT9015D/37 Specs here: http://smurl.name/gv84 Lastly, a simple little $50 VCR--Sylvania 6240VE It is mono and only has: antenae in (coax) RF out, Audio in & out (mono) and video in & out Presently, I have NO receiver or stereo speakers. The only thing I use the VCR for is to tape movies for a friend and very occasionally watch movies. I will eventually get a new, better vcr, and a receiver & speakers, but for now, that's it. OK. So I think (and the CEA guide agrees): Coax satellite into satellite receiver. S-video & rca audio out of sat, into DVD player. Composite video & rca audio out of DVD, into television. (if anyone has a better idea, I'm all ears) This leaves the vcr. It's fine just to record what's currently on the television. Should I run an additional coax from the satellite receiver into the vcr then RF out to the televsion (or video and mono audio out) to the tv, or do I just connect straight from vcr to television? If I do, will it still record the scrambled satellite channels? Does it screw anything up to have two outputs from the satellite receiver? I can't seem to get an answer on this and I've been surfing the web for weeks. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. Cavewife |

Cavewife the most simple way to go is to use the coax out from the Sat box then on to the TV RF in. Set the VCR for channel three and tape away. |

Cavewife you have answered your own question: Should I run an additional coax from the satellite receiver into the vcr then RF out to the televsion[?] That answer is yes, and as Casey points out, you record on channel 3 (or channel 4, depending on what the satbox's output channel is). You will not be able to record one channel and watch another simultaneously. |

By the way Cavewife, I would use a component (Y Pb Pr) hookup for the output of the DVD into the TV. The difference in picture quality on a 27" TV may not be that great, but theoretically component is the best way to send the DVD's signal into the TV. Component carries video only, so you will have to use R/L RCA from the DVD in order to hear the audio on the TV's speakers. |

Thanks, John. I was just a bit confused because Casey said coax out of sat into tv, not into vcr. Just making sure. Also, yes! Definitely COMPONENT, not composite. Thanks again! |
