I just got digital cable and i want to make sure i have it hooked up right.

I have a sony reciever that is currently hooked up to my DVD player and when i watch DVD's the reciever says Dolby Digital 5.1. SHould the reciever say this when I am watching dolby recorded shows or movies through the digital cable? i do have one optical input jack on the reciever that is now being used with the dvd player. Right now i have the red/yellow/and white cords going from the cable box to the reciever and that is it. is that correct? or should i have one going to the tv as well? It does not seem like the sound quality witht he digital cable is that great and the surround sound does not sound that good.

Your cable box should have a digital audio output, either optical or coax. This output should be hooked into your receiver.
