I would like to hook up my computer to my dvd/ surround sound system (reciever). I did once and I got sound out of the speakers but they were cracking or popping. They do not crack when I am just listening to a cd through the dvd/cd player on the reciever. I would really like to know what I did wrong. Please help

Can I just hook up a mini-to-mini cord from my computer to my all-in-one home theater component, and thereby play songs from the iTunes in my computer through the home theater speakers?
