I'm in the process of adding on a new family room (about 15 x 18 feet) and as a COMPLETE newbie, am looking for any/all advice you might have. I'd like to set up speakers/wiring and a system while the walls are open.
-I'll need a receiver and speakers (ceiling mounted?) and also would like to tie in all weather outdoor speakers for the small backyard patio area(about 20 wide by 15 deep)
-I can only swing about $1,000.00 for the project. Won't be getting the big-screen, yet.
I'd appreciate any direction as I'm starting from scratch.

Look for a Marantz/Denon receiver refurbished for around $400 and then get a package speaker from Aperion or Axiom like this one:

Little more than a grand, but well worth it.
