I have just purchased a new Fujitsu Plasma, Yamaha V2600 and Sony DVD player that has upconvert to HD ability. All have HDMI but I also have a cable box that does not have HDMI (component). I thought I could use 1 HDMI cable from DVD to Receiver and Component from Cable Box to receiver and then 1 HDMI from receiver to Plasma. Is this wrong? Someone told me it will not work since all sources do not have HDMI? Please help!!

yes, it should work. The yamaha RX-V2600 has A/V upconversion to the HDMI output. you should be able to run all of your components into the receiver and then one HDMI cable to the monitor. It will take the analog signal from the component cables (cable box) as well as the digital signal (HDMI from DVD) and send both thru the HDMI cable.

reciever menu > manual setup > option menu > display setup > v-conv "on"

that is how you upconvert with a 2600.

I hope your STB can handle the HDCP handshake if you can use HDMI.
