I have a Kenwood VR 7070 Receiver and Athena Micra 6 speakers.
I had set it up and played DVD - Music and Movie without a problem except that I found that the sound was very shallow with no mid-bass sound.
After a short while when I played a DVD (I tried several different ones) the volume would fluctuate greatly - sounded like someone was turning the volume up and down rapidly.
I tried to change set up when I put in a DVD to stereo instead of Dolby 5.1 or DTS 5.1 and I even hooked my old Mission 763 speakers and it still occurs.
Any suggestions as to what my problem is ?

Can you give more info like how you had set it up? Like via Toslink or digital coax or RCA, etc. Is the sound normal when you play radio and other sources like VCR or TV besides the DVD?

Without knowing what's going on, assuming your receiver and wiring is OK then my WAG would be:

If you hooked up using Toslink/coax, make sure you set up your DVD not to downconvert to PCM and if you are using RCA, you might want to tell the DVD to send PCM instead.
