I just got a Yamaha rxv 757 yesterday. I hooked up my Sanyo DVD via componet to the AV. I did not get the rear speakers to work when playing a movie. The center and front speakers do work. All the speakers worked when I adjusted the volumn levels. Do I need to use the digital audio link from the dvd to the Yamaha to get the back speakers to work?

Component is for video only. I'm surprised you are getting any audio at all

Yes you need to connect the digital audio.
