My Panasonic DVD-SR26 is connected to the Onkyo via Optical. The settings in the DVD are set to BITSTREAM ( NOT PCM!!)DVD is connected to optical 2. Still when listening to cd (music)and hit display the message reading "PCM fs 48 khz" appears. Unable to change settings on Onkyo to Dolby. Why am I not getting the "Dolby D" signal format? I look at all the dvd player's settings and unless is buried somewhere i can find anything more to change..

Because most CD's are not encoded with Dolby Digital. |

You have to use the SACD or DVD audio format. The Dolby you usually see is just noise reduction used during recording. Unless it is desginated as a multi-channel audio (which is SACD or DVD-A) all you'll get would be stereo or stereo matrixed into surround sound. |

Thanks very much for your answers.Seems i am going to have to replace the DVD to use those formats. The Panasonic was built on 2001 .i don't have the specs for it but i don't think it will play SACD or DVD audio. Again thanks for your responses. |
