I have an old tv with standard audio and video outputs. When watching regular programming the sound level is sufficient but when I play my dvd player I turn the volume to the highest level and still have trouble hearing the program. I appologize if this is not the proper forum but I need help. So my problem is two fold. I need more sound when playing my dvd player. The house I am leasing has surround sound speakers installed but the hookups are different from my tv which has the standard audio/video outputs. Do I need to go through an amp? From the dvd player, through an amp, to the tv. I truly have no knowledge of what should be done. Please help. Thank you in advance.

Buy a home theater in a box. The volume on most DVDs is lower than most other sources, not much you can do but amplify it. You can get cheap HTIBs for $100, maybe even less on sale. Right now is a good time for sales with the holiday tomorrow. |

If you're planning on using the surround sound speakers, you'll need a receiver. If you're simply using your built-in TV speakers, no receiver is necessary. |
