Basic question is this, can I make do with a decent set of bookshelf speakers without needing a subwoofer. I am by no means an audiophile, I just want something that sounds good. If I can get by without a subwoofer, that would be great. If so, any recommendations for a pair of bookshelves? I would, of course, get a center channel and surrounds also for the surround sound.
Thanks.

cup,

It depends on what you expect from your system. Dont expect big sound from a small pair of speakers, but it all depends on what you want or need. You should hit the local hifi circuit and listen to some in person and see if there are any you like within your budget.
