Need a little advice on incorporating the digital cable box into my home theatre. My receiver is a Sony STR-K840P, and it only has two digital inputs (one coaxial and one optical). The manual says to use one or the other and recommends using the coaxial. The digital cable box and DVD player both have digital outputs. Is it OK to use both the coaxial and optical digital inputs for both the DVD and cable box? If so, does it matter which component I use for either one?
The only other component I have is the VCR, which is equipped with RCA composites. My TV has RF, RCA composite, and S-video connections.
If this makes it any easier, here's what I have again:
1)TV- RF, RCA composite, S-video
2)Sony STR-K840P receiver- 2 digital inputs (one optical, one coaxial), plenty of RCA composites
3) DVD- digital audio, S-video, RCA
4) VCR- RF, RCA composites
5) Digital cable box- RF, RCA, digital audio, S-video
Any help is appreciated. |

If possible use the optical with the DVD, and the coax with the cable box. Usually the digital inputs are either pre-assigned and labled, or they are assignable by entering the setup menu on your receiver. |
