In the Audio setup on my DVD player I have a Dynamic setting. Currently it is set to 1/2 compression. I believe this has something to do with the dolby digital sound. What is this and what do the different setting do in relation to sound????

Dynamic Compression is a circuit that reacts to variation in loudness (dynamic range) in your source material and supresses (or rather, compresses) the loudest parts and increases the lowest parts to make the loudness range fit into a more narrow range. This is useful if you are listening to movie soundtracks on inferior speakers that lack the abillity to reproduce the full dynamic range of the soundtrack, such as a TV's built-in speaker system. If you are using a home theatre system you may want to minimize or deactivate this circuit. Try it and see if your speakers can handle it.
